While living in Bedford County, Freeman wrote the following two his brother Jarrell who was living in Carroll County TN:
Normandy August 19, 1856
Dear Brother & Sister
After a Long time wating for a Letter from you to here from you and have knot reived Eny from you I will Rite you: One to Let you know that we are all Well at this time hopin these few line will find you all In Good helth. I have bin thinkin I wold com to See you all before know but have knot Got of from --- yet. I want to know wether you can pay that Note I hold on you if I cam to See you or knot. I have knot needed it till knoe but I am needing it know the worst Sort and if you can help me I would be very Glad for I am push for Sum mony at this time if you can help me I want you to Let me knoe it and I will Send after it. Or come. I Though I wold give you a plenty of time on it and hop you will knot think hard of me for Biting to on the Subject ----Times is very hard here Crops Sorry and Everything high heep of Sickness and Sum Deths. Patsy is Sick and has been sum 2 monts she is consdered to be Sum better at this time. Give my Respects to all the children and conetions yous with Respect.

Dear Brother & Sister & family
After my Respects to you all I will Try and ancer you Letter Dated 18 of this month wich cam to hand yesterday. You Stated Som thing Like you wold knot be here Shortley and you Sed that my mony was Redy for me. I am Glad to here it for I am paying Ten per cent for mony know and I want it the worst way. I want you to Send it to me in Ten days or by the 10 of January if you can with Out tale as I am compled to have som 3 or 4 Hundred by that time. Send it by male and take the post masters Recipt for it and there is no danger for he hast to Regist it as mony and it will ----- you need knot be Scird if you will Let the post master put it in and take his Recpt for it. Send it to me and I will Send you your Note you can Cont the interest your Self and Send it all. Send it with out fale for I am Compled to have mony Or suffer for the want of it. Times is hard here and may ---. Since I moved up here I have made nothing and have spent what I had tring to mak some. I wold have come out before now but I cold knot git the Chance to Come and Leave my biness. My Wife has bin Sick about Seven Weeks with her Brests after her Baby was Bornd. Hur brest Rise and has bin very bad. She is gitting better now. Our Baby was borned the first day of november it will be 2 months old the first day of January we named it Sarah Caldonia Tennessee Nuton we gave it as much name as we cold put on it. With thes Lines I will Close this Leaves us all in Tolerible Health. I Remin you Brother till Deth.
