A sketch of the lives of your Grandfather and Grandmother Daniel and Frances Hooser:
By Mrs. Alameda Hooser Couch
Dated: Sept. 17, 1927 Abilene, Texas
Daniel and Frances Kimbro(ugh) Hooser lived on a farm situated at "Three Forks" of Duck River near Shelbyville, Tennessee, Bedford County, there a family of eight children, two sons, and six daughters grew to man and woman hood George Marion Hooser, the eldest son was a popular school teacher for that day, was loved and admired by all who knew him for his gentle kind disposition. Married and left two sons, one of them, George Mitchell Hooser was a successful farmer. Married a very noted Lutheran preacher's daughter (old Billie Jenkins) raised one son. Horace Hooser who was a teacher and banker, living at Haley, Tennessee.
Your grandfather, Daniel Hooser, was never a very "big man" but noted for the good things he did. My first memory, he was a Major in a Militia Company stationed at Rowesville, Tennessee. The opulets he wore on his shoulders, I thought were beautiful. He held the office of the County Trustee for several years. Then overseer on a Negro plantation at the same time and when he was declining was made Magistrate until his death, lived and died on the same place I mentioned above. His people were slave owners but nothing was realized from them as they were set free.
As you are aware, I am the only one of the family living. Sister Martha Troxler left no heirs and Virginia Mullins. One son Tom Williams all of whom lived near Shelbyville, Tennessee. Sister Virginia Bomar passed away in La., left two sons and a daughter there. My eldest sister Mary Ann died when a young lady. Sister Sarah Jane is the mother of George Couch and Sarah Couch Parker. My Father was Scotch-Irish descent and my mother Dutch-German.
Your Mother,
Mrs. J. A. Couch (83yrs)
Note: The sister referred to above as Terania Williams, the name in the Hooser Bible is Sophrona Alameda. John A. Couch married Sarah Jane Hooser in 1853, she died in 1863, Alameda Hooser who was born in 1844 but there is no Bible Record of this marriage. She is the one who wrote this letter. The Hooser Bible spells the name Kimbro not Kimbrough.
